Whew. Day three of upfronts is here, and I am seriously regretting staying up until the wee hours at the big Entertainment Weekly party last night.
Or, well, I would regret the EW party, had it not been chock-full of some of our TV favorites and a ridiculously good time! Click in for the dish on Gossip Girl, Dollhouse and more!
The cast is gorgeous and young and hot, and did I mention gorgeous?
That's what I can tell you after meeting all the new stars of West Beverly yesterday at the CW party in NYC.
Naturally, our beloved Kelly Taylor was in the house to promote her return as a special guest star on the new CW 90210 spinoff, and she said it hasn't yet been determined how much we'll see of her.
"We're still figuring that out," said Jennie Garth when asked how many episodes she would be doing. "I'm not a series regular, though, I'm definitely a guest star."
Garth said that she also knows that Tori Spelling "definitely wants to come on" and hopes other vets make it back, adding that producers have talked to Luke Perry and Ian Ziering.
The funniest thing, though? Garth had not yet met any of her new costars when I spoke to her on the green carpet, and was peeking down the arrivals line to check 'em out. When I told her they all seemed cool and that the girls were getting along well she laughed: "Oh, give them time! They'll be fighting over the red dress in no time!" Love it.
Also lovable? Ms. Lucille Bluth, er, Jessica Walter, who will be playing the show's grandma and, just like her former alter ego, hitting the bottle and saucing things up. "She has a little bit of a drinking problem and will stir up trouble," Walters said.
When asked if she might take part in the Arrested Development animated series for Fox (Jason Bateman and Will Arnett are lending their voices), she said, "I would like to! Tell those guys to call me!"
Gob, dear, call your mother.
Greetings from the green carpet!
Right now I'm in between interviews at the CW soiree but had to share these videos with you from the NBC party, 'cause they're, um, awesome.
See Rainn Wilson rock my world with some spicy Office spinoff scoop (Schrute to Kill? Um, can someone pitch this, pronto?), and then watch in awe as he turns the mic on the one and only Donald Trump.
Our Office week extravaganza continues with the high-larious Ed Helms (aka Andy Bernard).
Check out our one-on-one as we discuss the death of Andy's alter ego "Drew," his "disdain" for Rainn Wilson/Dwight, and why Dunder-Mifflin is turning into a baby black market! (Does your brain hurt yet?)
Dig in for all the goodness, and then check back in tomorrow and Thursday for more fun times from my Office set visit as we lead up to the season finale. (C'mon, you know you love it.)
Ladies and gentlemen, this would have been a live liveblog had the ABC upfront presentation at Lincoln Center had WiFi. Sadly it did not, so this nearly live liveblog is brought to you by the WiFi hot spot at a nearby Starbucks. To make it up to you for the delay, I brought you Lost dish. Click in for the goods...
This just might be the most depressing news yet coming out of the New York upfronts.
I've just received word from Gabrielle Stanton and Harry Werksman, bosses of Moonlight, that the series has been canceled.
They sent me this message to pass along to you fans:
It's true. We found out about an hour ago that Moonlight has been officially canceled.
We are truly saddened by the news and are sorry that we won't get the chance to live with our wonderful characters and follow them on their adventures for a second season.
We really want to thank all our loyal fans for their undying love and support of the show. We never would have made it this far without them.
In vampire solidarity...rah, rah!
Gabrielle Stanton & Harry Werksman
This series has one of the most dedicated, passionate audiences I've ever seen in the many years in this job. And to all of you I extend a heartfelt hug.
Feel free to group-hug it out and express your disappointment at CBS below...
Two notes before you read this post about what we've heard regarding CBS' pickups and cancellations for the 2008-09 season: (1) This is all unofficial until tomorrow's CBS upfront presentation to advertisers, and (2) please don't shoot the messenger. I just report these decisions, I don't make 'em.
Moonlight and Shark are gone.
The Unit, The New Adventures of Old Christine (or What About Christine, as I like to call it), Rules of Engagement and How I Met Your Mother are coming back.
Yay, Britney! Got any other thoughts on this news? Post in the comments below.
In the meantime, I'm running away to cover the CW party, in part because I think it might be safer out there than it will be in here for the moment.
XOXO,
TV Gossip Girl
Just got back from a chat session with ABC's big cheese Steve McPherson, where we dug into today's fall schedule announcement, what lies ahead for some of our favorite shows and stars—and why he didn't bring back two fan favorites.
Here's what we learned:
