Real-Life Indys Treat Ford Like One of Their Own

Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom Lucasfilms/Paramount PicturesImage

The Archaeological Institute of America knows Harrison Ford only plays a bullwhip-toting, intrepid scholar on the big screen, right?

Either way, because of what the movie star's role as the iconic Indiana Jones has done for the field, the Boston-based organization has elected Ford to its board of directors.

Understanding the past helps in "dealing with the present and future," Ford said in a statement released by the AIA, which, per its website, "exists to promote archaeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past worldwide."

The institute's professional members have conducted field research around the globe and have founded research and learning centers in seven countries.

It's unclear what duties Ford will fulfill, but surely even the pros can use refresher courses from time to time on escaping snaky situations and riding an inflatable raft through the snow.

On Set With Fired Up's Cheer-Camp Hotties

More from Lyons Den

Haven't you heard? Cheerleading's huge. With the success of Bring it On and High School Musical, the sport has come back around in Hollywood, and it's hot. So we hit the set of cheer-camp comedy Fired Up to see why.

Molly Sims and a cast of very peppy cheerleader types give us the lowdown, offer some tips and, uh, put me in a tiger suit and make me dance. Seriously. Hit the clip to check it out.

Daniel Day-Lewis Dressed to the Nine?

Daniel Day-Lewis Michael Caulfield/WireImage.com

Daniel Day-Lewis tends to bide his time between projects, sometimes waiting as long as five years between Oscar nominations, er, film roles. But Nine could be the magic number this time around.

Variety reports the British thesp is in talks to play the role of a film director dealing with personal and creative demons while simultaneously trying to please the many women in his life—a part that previously belonged to Javier Bardem—in the big-screen adaptation of the Fellini-inspired stage musical Nine.

The British scene-stealer might not seem like the obvious choice to play Guido Contini, but Bardem ultimately decided he was tired out from his other films and all that awards-season triumphing to carry on. No matter that the Spaniard's girlfriend, Penélope Cruz, is still slated to star, along with Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Judi Dench.

Chicago visionary Rob Marshall will be directing the Weinstein Co. production. A rep for the studio says no decisions regarding the male lead have been made and that any names out there now are "pure conjecture."

The Heat of 100 Hotties

Shannon Elizabeth, Maxim Magazine Courtesy Maxim

Something's not adding up on Maxim's "ultimate list of the world’s most beautiful women.”

Case in point: Ashley Tisdale or Angelina Jolie? Tisdale or Gisele Bündchen? Tisdale or Tina Fey?

It’s no contest: Tisdale is No. 10 on the list, while Jolie, Bündchen and Fey don’t even make it. No offense to Sharpay, but something is wrong here. (We will, however, applaud G4's Olivia Munn at 99.)

As well, the editors clearly never forgot their first piece of American Pie, putting not one but two slices of the movie's cast on the list: cover girl Shannon Elizabeth and the inexplicable Mena Suvari. Had they included the divine Alyson Hannigan, we might have forgiven them, but...

Dancing Beat Stops for Marissa

Marissa Jaret Winokur, Dancing with the Stars ABC/KELSEY McNEAL

Marissa Jaret Winokur remains a one-time Tony winner for now.

The Broadway star and partner Tony Dovolani were eliminated from Dancing With the Stars Tuesday after failing to make the most of their hard-fought trip to the semifinals.

Despite dual 26s on their quickstep and rumba and being called an "unlikely contender" by Carrie Ann Inaba last night, their 52 left them four points out of the hunt while only one point separated the other three contestants.

"It's been incredible!" the reliably bubbly Winokur said before that final goodbye dance. "No one expected us to get this far...[Tony] has worked so hard with me. This has been such an incredible experience."

First to be declared finalists, meanwhile, were—shocker!—Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas, who've never had to sweat it out for long come results time and who regained the top of the leaderboard last night after a two-week drought.

DWTS Beat-by-Beat: Kristi Back on Top, Barely

Jason Taylor, Dancing with the Stars ABC/KELSEY McNEAL

Step in time with our Dancing With the Stars performance-show liveblog:

Only four stars remain and each will be performing two dances chosen at random, meaning they could wind up redoing their favorites or be forced to revisit their own personal ballroom hells. Either way, good times for us.

For some reason, the judges have reinstated the no-lift rule after allowing one per dance last week (which makes the choreography way more fun, but whatever), and expectations are high for one of the stronger semifinals in recent memory.

"Give it some welly," head judge Len Goodman reminds the group. And away we go with Jason Taylor's fox-trot...

British Bachelor Calls On Shayne

Shayne, The Bachelor ABC/CRAIG SJODIN

"At times I thought you were the one—many times. I think you're amazing, and I wish you the best."

So said Matt Grant to the woman he didn't pick on the finale of The Bachelor: London Calling.

But so goes the pioneering ABC series, which wrapped up its 12th season Monday with Grant, a 27-year-old financier from London, popping the question to 22-year-old Shayne Lamas, an actress and the daughter of Renegade star Lorenzo Lamas.

"I came here to find someone for life. And I know, when I look in those beautiful brown eyes, that you'll always be there for me. And I hope you know that I will always be there for you. I don't have much more to say."

Then he got down on one knee, declared his love, and presented Lamas with a multicarat sparkler.

Meaning Chelsea Wanstrath, 24, got the shaft—albeit a much nicer-sounding shaft, thanks to the British accent (which, really, can alleviate anything).

Cameron Spending Her Weekend With the World

Cameron Diaz AP Photo / Tammie Arroyo

It might not be quite as fun as helping convince Sarah Silverman that Jimmy Kimmel is f--ing Ben Affleck, but Cameron Diaz figures this cause is just as worthy of her time.

The actress will be joining fellow golden girls Meg Ryan and Goldie Hawn in Los Angeles on Saturday to take part in Pangea Day, a film festival intended to promote unity and tolerance by shedding light on different cultures and the issues endemic to particular spots around the globe.

"We all share the same planet and we only have one of 'em, and the more that we know about each other and the more that we tell each other about ourselves, the more likenesses we see that we have," Diaz says in a PSA promoting the event. "Storytelling is age-old, something we've done since the beginning of man—it's how we relate to each other...Because we are a global tribe, that storytelling must expand to be inclusive to everyone."

Other live screenings will be taking place in London; Cairo; Kigali, Rwanda; Mumbai, India and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while the rest of us can catch webcasts streaming on the event's website or watch on TV (check your local listings).

Lisa Ling is one of the hosts and musical performers will include Live 8 visionary Bob Geldof and the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart.

Natalie Portman Avoids Heights

Natalie Portman Ash Knotek/ZUMApress.com

Natalie Portman can't make time for another torturous period romance after all.

Despite being an early champion of the project, the Other Boleyn Girl star has had to drop out of an upcoming adaption of Emily Brontë's haunting classic Wuthering Heights because of a scheduling conflict, a rep for Portman confirms to E! News.

There's no word on who might fill Cathy's headstrong shoes now, but German-born thesp Michael Fassbender is reportedly in final negotiations to play Heathcliff and cameras are still set to roll this fall, with Brit John Maybury directing.

The film keeping Portman from tromping around the moors is as yet unannounced, but we do know that the almost-27-year-old has the Jim Sheridan drama Brothers, costarring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire, coming up, as well as the vignette-driven New York, I Love You, an American answer to last year's Paris, je t'aime.

Sneak Pics: Sienna, Dennis Suit up for G.I. Joe

Sienna Miller, G.I. Joe Paramount Pictures

She's not exactly a real American hero, but Brit Sienna Miller's still pretty hot as the villain Baroness in new pics from the far-off G.I. Joe flick.

Due in summer 2009, the movie's got a huge cast of real-life action figures, with Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans and Rachel Nichols. Plus Ray "Darth Maul" Park and Korean TV/pop star Lee Byung-hun as dueling ninjas.

Wait, was there a Wayans brother in there?

Lancôme Faces Up to Uma

Uma Thurman Nancy Kaszerman/ZUMAPress.com

The former face of Lancôme looks angry.

The French cosmetics maker has sued its erstwhile spokesmodel in an attempt to ward off her attempt to collect at least $1 million for the alleged use of her picture in foreign ads after her contract expired in 2005.

Per the complaint filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Lancôme maintains it never "knowingly or intentionally" continued to use Thurman's face to push its products and that any webpages still featuring her old photos were never meant to be publicly available.

But according to her attorney, Thurman, who inked a multimillion-dollar deal with Lancôme in 2000, says her pics showed up on Asian websites and on a Canadian billboard touting the company's Miracle skin-care line. She has not formally filed suit against Lancôme, which is looking to have a judge preemptively rule that the company did not wrongfully use her image.
