First Look: Mariah's Magic Mountain Night With Nick
Thu., May. 15, 2008 10:50 AM PDT
Snaps have just surfaced of Nick Cannon's surprise party for Mariah Carey at Six Flags Magic Mountain earlier this week. Check out those forced smiles!
As we reported earlier, the newlyweds rented the entire theme park Tuesday night for 100 of their closest friends and covered the place in lilac and pink balloons.
Mimi, who donned a bright pink Superman cape at one point, noshed on cupcakes in between roller-coaster rides with her hubby—which might explain the gritted teeth.
Mariah's Matrimonial Musings
Tue., May. 13, 2008 11:14 AM PDT
A girl's gotta have her priorities, right?
In her first interview since tying the knot with Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey appears on Tuesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show to chat up her recent nuptials—and to reveal that when it comes to the biggest day of your life, it's definitely more important to be the lovely one as opposed to being surrounded by a bunch of silly loved ones.
"Mainly it was people there to do my hair and help me with the dress," Mimi tells Ellen about who attended the quickie marriage last month. "And then three of my friends, and he had three people with him, so it wasn't a lot of people."
Meanwhile, Ellen called in this morning to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM morning show to dish on the diva's exclusive, albeit tardy, appearance...
Mr. and Mrs. Cannon Fire Up Manhattan
Fri., May. 9, 2008 8:45 AM PDT
Call it the emancipation of the Cannons.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon stepped out publicly for the first time as husband and wife Thursday night in New York, making an appearance at the party for Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World.
The newlyweds arrived at the bash, held at Lincoln Center, around 9:30 p.m. and eschewed the red carpet press, instead making their way inside to allow Mimi adequate prep time for her 10:30 p.m. performance.
Cannon, 27, and Carey, 38, showed off their blingtastic wedding rings, which the Grammy winner matched with her extremely formfitting, short 'n' shimmery dress.
The duo stuck around long enough to pose alongside Oprah BFF Gayle King, music producer Antonio "L.A." Reid and Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons, before continuing on to a postparty pit stop at eatery du jour the Waverly Inn.
Next week will bring yet another first for Carey, namely her first televised appearance as a married woman. Well, a twice-married woman.
She's set to tape an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday. The episode will air on Tuesday.
Nick Cannon's Ring Around New York
Thu., May. 8, 2008 5:30 PM PDT
Nick Cannon took his ring out for a walk today in New York City. From the looks of it, he might need a little help toting the twinkly thing around.
His bride Mariah Carey is said to be performing tonight at the Time 100 event, and we'll bring you all the details as they come in.
A-List Secrets: Gettin' Hitched to Sell Albums?
Wed., May. 7, 2008 2:16 PM PDT
Mariah got married just as her new album came out, and both Ashlee Simpson and Scarlett Johansson announced engagements close to their CD releases. This can't be a coincidence, right? Do celebrities time their "big announcements" with a new project?
—Charlotte, Tampa Bay, Fla.
You mean, did Mariah Carey deliberately schedule her "secret" wedding to Nick Cannon—a romance so private you have to have to go all the way to the People site to learn the details? Did Ashlee possibly give herself pregnantitis by that terrifying, greasy eyeliner man just to stay alive in the charts?
Well, yes. And no. My precise meaning after the jump.
Oprah Scores Mariah Scoop, Surprises Herself
Wed., May. 7, 2008 12:20 PM PDT
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's nuptials might have been a little more planned out than previously believed—at least according to Oprah.
How could the talk-show host tell? Seems like a "Mrs. Cannon" tattoo might have tipped Winfrey off. Mariah reportedly got inked before her April 30 sunset ceremony in the Bahamas.
Only, Oprah says didn't learn about the tat until after Mimi's recent appearance on her show, so she didn't grill Mariah appropriately when she visited a week before the wedding.
"Little did I know I should have paid more attention to the situation," says Winfrey on today's show about being introduced to Mariah's then boyfriend, now husband, Cannon, in the greenroom.
Don't worry, Oprah. Happens to the best of us.
Madonna's French Kiss—but Was There Tongue?
Wed., May. 7, 2008 10:36 AM PDT
The musical battle for headline domination is getting heated.
Mariah Carey may have grabbed the spotlight with her quickie wedding to Nick Cannon, but Madonna knows how to play the game.
The queen of reinvention kissed one of her female backup dancers during a private show at the Olympia in Paris Tuesday night.
But just how French was the lip-lock? "She was having a pretty steamy humping scene with her guitar and on a speaker,” Madge’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, emailed me from the French capital this morning. “But I didn't see any full-on makeout session."
Tongue or no tongue, I think Madonna pulls ahead of Mariah in the stunt department.
Ball’s in your court now, Mimi.
Mariah Is Married: Prepare to OD on "Glitter"
Wed., May. 7, 2008 8:00 AM PDT
Do you love Mariah Carey? We sure hope so, because today you’re going to be drowning in her.
People magazine is running photos of her wedding to Nick Cannon. She’s reportedly going to be on Oprah today and is scheduled to perform later tonight at Time magazine’s Time 100 party.
Chances are good Mimi’s nuptials (not to mention her prenuptial) will dominate every morning talk show and gossip blog today. Likely your morning DJs are playing Mariah rock-block tributes. Your coworkers may have even subconsciously decided to don pink today in Mariah's honor.
Oh, and if you see a rainbow today, that’s probably her doing, too.
Mariah and Nick Do Have a Prenup
Tue., May. 6, 2008 7:45 AM PDT
Mariah Carey may seem like she’s on her own sparkly pink planet where unicorns prance freely and rivers flow with rainbow-colored sugar water, but girlfriend’s got some survival instincts tucked in that brain of hers.
Somewhere between her right frontal cortex and wherever it is she stores the names of Sanrio characters, Mariah has squirreled away the term prenup, and, despite speculation, she reportedly has put it to use.
Mariah apparently told a friend that anyone who thinks she and Nick Cannon didn’t have a prenup “is smoking something!"
Sorry, Nick. Better love up that Barbie Dream House while you’re still living in it.
A-List Secrets: How Many Minions Do Stars Hire?
Mon., May. 5, 2008 4:01 PM PDT
How many people does an A-list celebrity typically employ?
—J.S.
The care and feeding of celebrities requires two breeds of minion. The household help—cooks, nannies, butlers—usually work directly for the star. The satellite people—lawyers, nutritionists, trainers, publicists, agents—work for themselves and charge an hourly or monthly rate.
But exactly how much assistance a star needs depends on how rich and fabulous—or fertile—he or she is. Brangelina and their We-Are-the-World peanut gallery have different needs than, say, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who have only two—albeit hefty—egos to feed.
Follow me past the jump, and I'll tell you exactly how many lackeys are required in both kinds of households—plus the minion count for a third, mystery diva.

And I got a bunch o’ gossip goodies for you about the big star-studded, fashionista-packed evening:
Mariah Gives Us the Skinny...Sort Of
Mon., May. 5, 2008 11:21 AM PDT
Yes, Mariah Carey looks sexy on the cover of Vibe. But the mag may as well be promoting her debut album from 1990.
The June issue's blow-by-blow account of all the preparations leading up to the "Touch My Body" songbird's 38th birthday off the coast of Antigua would have been at least mildly interesting to us a few weeks ago—that is, before her impromptu wedding to Nick Cannon (who is mentioned in the article as a "recent acquaintance").
But now, reading about how "fuchsia feather boas drip from arms of every chair" seems so passé.
Still, we appreciate the photos, Vibe. Really, we do.
They'll give us something to stare at till somebody else comes along with the info we really care about.
